Carrington Resort, Karikari, Northland
The Carrington Resort is a private golf club located on the Karikari Peninsula at the northern tip of the North Island of New Zealand. The Resort facilities include: an oceanside, tournament-quality, 18-hole golf course, designed by Matt Dye, and opened in December, 2003; a skeet and trap (clay targets) shooting range; tennis courts; and a heated swimming pool with an ocean view.
The Resort also offers clubhouse fine dining and lounge facilities, a library, a billiard room, a guest lodge and a pro shop. The Resort is sited between a 4 km private, white sandy beach and the mountainside vineyards of the Karikari Estate winery. The sweeping ocean vistas provide a spectacular foreground for the Resorts activities.
The Carrington Resort is set in the middle of the Carrington Farms property, a 3000-acre environmentally planned complex of private virgin beaches, restored natural wetlands, a Black Angus stud farm, and Karikari Estate, the northernmost winery in New Zealand.
The Resort is located in the warmest area of New Zealand, closest to the equator. The weather patterns of the area are very moderate, much akin to the southern coastal areas of California from Santa Barbara to San Diego. Extreme temperature variations are non-existent, despite the fact that the area is semi-tropical. The average midday winter temperature is 18° C (64° F), and the average midday summer temperature is 24° C 75°). The seasons are opposite of those in the Northern Hemisphere.
